Adoption Pending! Bianca is looking for her fearless leader!  For the first year of her life, Bianca was confined to outdoor kennel living with a backyard breeder, and missed out on crucial handling, human socialization, and coping skills that a dog in a ‘normal’ home setting would learn.  Because of this, she has insecurities about new places and especially with new people to overcome.  Her insecurities manifest in being reactive towards people that she does not know, and she has also exhibits some resource guarding from time to time.  Her issues are much more pronounced at home versus out and about.  Bianca is able to enjoy walks and hikes, but care does need to be taken so she understands her handler is making the decisions and will advocate in keeping her ‘safe’ from strangers.  She is otherwise very loving and sweet with her chosen people, and is a typical velcro Doberman.

Bianca is smart and picks up on things very quickly, but will test her handler in many new experiences to try to get her way.  Bianca needs strong leadership, stability, and follow-through from ALL individuals in a new home.  She is highly food motivated and responding well to obedience and confidence building in her foster home, and very willing to work hard for the right person.  Bianca has made a lot of progress in many areas, but it will take time and dedication to commit to furthering her re-retraining and recognizing (and respecting) where her limitations might be.

Unfortunately Bianca’s good looks also come with a bit of a price….Due to Bianca’s unique white albino coloring, special precautions will need to be taken to protect her delicate skin and eyes from sunburn damage, by way of special coats, sunscreen, UV goggles and keeping outdoor activities limited to early morning or after dusk.

All her issues aside, Bianca is truly a wonderful and endearing girl that we feel is well worth the time and work.  She is house trained, loves her crate, and has learned all basic obedience skills.  Personality wise, Bianca is very affectionate, sensitive, and silly once you have gained her trust.  She likes to bury her head in your lap or nuzzle you for attention, and is a dog who ‘smiles’ in excitement of seeing her people.  Bianca reads and plays well with other dogs, and is said to do ok with cats as well, but we have not specifically cat-tested her.  She is also happy to amuse herself by throwing and catching rope toys all on her own if no one else is available to play with.  Bianca's household manners are exceptional considering her background due to the structure her foster family provides.

A few MUST-HAVES for Bianca’s potential forever home:

  • adults only in the home.  Especially a quieter house without a lot of people coming and going will be easiest for Bianca and also for her adopters to manage.
  • doberman breed experience
  • fenced yard.  Further, if you live in an urban setting, a privacy fence will be a must.
  • be willing to let us know your training and dog background experience.  Certainly not to say you must be a pro trainer, but confidence in leading a reactive dog and proficiency in reading dog body language will be crucial for Bianca’s continued progress.

This might sound like a very specific list of requirements, but many people are seeing just a pretty face, and don’t consider the other important details to set Bianca up for success.   If you could be the perfect home for this diamond in the rough, please let us know by filling out an Adoption Application!
